Growth, evolution and development.
The Yin Yoga celebrating Springtime workshop is dedicated to a unique time of the year, a special journey which will combine the practice of meditation, Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra, to strengthen and stimulate the wood element, inviting us to celebrate this beautiful season: a perfect opportunity to renew, awaken our creative essence and connect to our true potential.
The great season of creativity, Spring time sees nature making a full comeback. After the still, cold, naked months of winter, we are surrounded by vitality and colour. Like a deeply-embedded seed, which has gathered and stored its resources during the period of rest, we too can grow and expand, returning to activity with renewed energy, vitality and positivity.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Spring is represented by the wood element; an energy which moves upwards and outwards, but like a tree, remains rooted in the earth, yet is flexible enough to adapt and mould itself to the “winds” of change.
In the body, the liver and gall bladder are the organ pair representing the wood element, responsible for the flow of blood and Qi in the body, hence for our overall vitality.
When Qi in the body is strong, we have a sense of spaciousness, decisiveness, flexibility and stability. With such presence, we can develop our projects, and remain skilful, adaptable and resilient.
When the Qi of the liver is weak or obstructed, we can feel trapped or stuck, confused, unclear, irritable, frustrated, or angry, unable to move or adapt to our situation. This prevents us from gently swaying with the breezes that caress our branches.
Wood energy requires the stillness and calm of the winter water element. It is only from a place of necessary rest that creativity, expansion and development are possible.
As human beings, we can observe, learn and respect the changes of nature in each season, to help maintain our physical, mental and psycho-emotional balance during these different cycles.
