Introduction to Yin Yoga workshop in Durban
From 28/08/2016 to 28/08/2016 -Location: Durban Yoga Shala, 230 Musgrave RoadYIN and YANG are Taoist terms which can be used to describe complementary and opposite aspects of life, which are ultimately inseparable. Yin (cool, dark, subtle and deep), and Yang (hot, light, exposed, active) are both necessary in all areas of life.
This Introduction to Yin Yoga workshop in Durban will allow you to discover the beauty of this quiet, cooling, simple, non-muscular practice, where postures are held for much longer (from 3 minutes upwards) to stretch deeper into the body, calming the breath and the mind, and creating space and time for ourselves to really begin to explore more deeply, improving our ability to live each moment with greater awareness.
Ultimate health and well-being require balance, on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level, and yoga can help us to move towards this balance, to come back to our centre. Our yang yoga practice (most hatha disciplines, vinyasa etc) helps us to stimulate and enhance the muscles to make us stronger and more flexible, whilst yin yoga aims deeper at the connective tissue, joints, ligaments, bones and fascia, and emphasises a more yielding, passive approach (yet no less challenging), to opening and rejuvenating the body.
The longer holds of Yin Yoga stimulate our life force; our energetic flow (Qi) through the fascias of the body, along energy pathways (meridians), and help to remove any blockages or tension accumulated, on a physical, mental and emotional level. Rooted in Taoist philosophy, Yin Yoga is also closely related to Traditional Chinese Medicine, and as such positively influences our organ health (the twelve main meridians and corresponding organs are beneficially stimulated physically, emotionally and mentally).
The stillness and silence of the Yin Yoga practice creates a soothing and very valuable space to balance the very active, frenetic pace of modern life, as well as our other yang-like physical activities.
